HI MR. STARK
I LOVE YOUR BLOG!
Our Class (Tech happenings)
Here you’ll find information on the latest and greatest tech happenings from our awesome 5th Grade Class…

Students have been using a new program called ‘Study Island’ over the course of the year as a way to guage how well they’re understanding the standards they learn in class. Now we’re using their results from the Study Island lessons to hit on any areas that they may be having difficulty with as we get ready for this year’s CST testing. We’ll be ready to rock!!
3/17/09…
Students are working with their Literature Circle discussion groups to create reviews, summaries, illustrations, and title pages that will be placed in MovieMaker presentations. They’ll also be recording their voices as they read the summary and review of their novel into a headset to accompany the images in their presentations.
4/24/08…
While some of our students are working to finish up Windows MovieMaker presentations that will be shared with the rest of the school, all of the 5th Graders have begun working with our new networked version of Mavis Beacon Typing. As the use of computers continues to grow in our schools, proper keyboarding skills are becoming more critical and will allow the students to be more effective and efficient in completing projects and tasks. The program keeps track of the students’ progress with keystrokes and words-per-minute (WPM) for as long as they remain here at BW. It’s a fun program and most of our class is loving it!
3/13…
Currently our class is finishing up research on one type of Alternative Energy that they chose to study. Each student (or partners) will then be using their research to create an educational PowerPoint presentation for the rest of the class about the benefits/drawbacks of this type of energy, how it works, why we should use it, etc. The goal is for the entire class to become informed (from one another) about MANY types of alternatives currently being used, instead of just the one they researched. AND…they’re using technology and creativity to do it!
Pretty cool…huh?

I wrote about me being a chef. I’ve always wanted to be a chef ever since I was 3. I’m seriously glad that we got to write these. P.S. How did you make those smiley faces again? :-}
